CPU(Central Processing Unit) also referred to as the processor. The CPU is the main “brain” of the computer, where the information is processed and calculations are done. CPUs come from many different manufacturers including Intel, AMD, Cyrix and Motorola. The computers CPU is responsible for handling all instructions and calculation it receives from other hardware components in the computer and software programs running on the computer.
The Hard Disk is used as the main storage space of the computer. This is sometimes confused as the computers memory, RAM is the memory this is simply storage space. The hard disk is a spindle of magnetic disks, called platters, that record and store information. Whenever you save information on the computer it will usually save to the hard drive. The hard drives total memory is usually in gigabits.
More commonly known as RAM, memory is a location where information is stored that is currently being utilized by the; operating system, software program, hardware device, and/or the user. Accessing RAM is much faster than accessing the hard disk. RAM access is based on electric charges, while the hard drive needs to find the correct part of the disk before accessing data. The more memory a computer has the more simultaneous tasks it can be perform. |
